28/4/07: The Pirate Publishers

“However it’s done, entrepreneurs have to find ways to transcend a system that historically has lacked vision and nerve—a system that currently marks every book selling less than twenty or twenty-five thousand copies as “disappointments.” Too many relatively successful and highly regarded books end up handicapping editors’ and authors’ careers. Something is wrong in a business that generates this much failure.”

- Speer Morgan, writing in The Missouri Review

I completely agree with Speer Morgan’s comment.

I have recieved significant & respected awards for my writing, and considerable in the film potential from my book - but still I find that publishing is inpenetrable.

At this rate, I will move directly into film, leaving publishing aside. To my mind -this suggests a sad future for publishing and a reverse of the previous direction of the discovery of new talent. It used to be publishing that discovered talent, with film/movie enhancing potential. It seems that this is no longer the case.

I would appreciate your feedback.
